The Factory of Franklin Wedding of Emily & Josh Part-2

I loved that the bridesmaids wore hot pink peep-toe pumps with their lime green dresses.

After the ceremony we moved all the guest into Jamison Hall for the reception. Nashville Event Lighting set the room beautifully with lots of uplighting, a gobo, and string lights.

The first dance was perfect with the gobo! Nashville Event Lighting created a custom gobo, that matched their invitations and wedding decor. Emily and Josh created a slideshow of images of them growing up to be displayed as a backdrop throughout the night.

As a surprise to Emily, Josh booked Photo Booth Nashville for the reception. Guest really enjoy having the photobooth there with all the props, and Emily was really surprised!

For the table decor, we added a black and white damask runner with a tall vase submerged with a orchid and floating candle. Very simple, but still elegant.

Itty Bitty Cake shop created their wedding cake for them and it turned out perfect!

I truly enjoyed working with Emily and Josh and everything turned out very beautiful.

Alternate Groomsmen Shoes Options

I love when couples add a different flair to the groomsmen attire, especially with the shoes. I have heard so many times, groomsmen complaining about their rental shoes being uncomfortable. So putting your groomsmen in shoes that they can wear again and are comfortable in, I think is a great idea.

I think that Converse has become the most popular alternate shoe options, I like when couples choose colors that match their wedding decor.

I love how these groomsmen wore the same shoes, but changed up the shoes laces.

Don't be afraid to step out of the box with your groomsmen shoes, they should look stylish too!!

The Factory of Franklin Wedding of Emily & Josh Part-1

I had the pleasure of working with Emily and Josh to plan their wedding at The Factory in Franklin. They were a great couple that wanted more than anything for their guest to have a good time. Emily's good friend and photographer Cody Emberton was their photographer for the day. Cody really captured some amazing shots!!

One of Emily's bridesmaid is a stylist at Eye Candy and did her hair and makeup for the wedding, which I think turned out fabulous. Emily looked so regal!!

We planned for an outside ceremony in the Courtyard, but with the unexpected rain shower, we quickly moved the ceremony inside to the Commons Area.

A Village of Flowers created the bridal parties flowers. I love working with them!

Monogramed Handkerchief for Bridesmaids Bouquet

I love anything custom and personalized for weddings. So when one of my brides saw a picture of some bridesmaids bouquets wrapped in personalized ribbon, we had the idea to monogram a handkerchief and use that to wrap around the bouquet.

Of course, Esty is the place to go when you are looking for custom wedding items. I found Elegant Monograms a shop to monogram these handkerchief's.

Since all of her maids are wearing different color dresses, we will have their monogram match the color of dress they are wearing, which is going to look great. It's a great special touch and gift for your bridesmaids after the wedding.

Nashville Wedding Planners Group

I have recently joined with Jennifer Hamilton of Mr. and Mrs. Events to create a group for Nashville Wedding Planners. Our group focuses on bringing Nashville Wedding Planners together and helping each other with day to day issues that most planners encounter.

Each month we will get together to share information and meet different vendors in the Nashville area. Our first group meeting we had a fabulous turn out, and we had Kristen Steele Photography there to capture the details.

We asked Daiva with Design in August to create our first group meeting invitation that turned out perfectly. I am in love with that color combination!

Jennifer and I wanted our first meeting to be a nice comfortable event for the planners, so we held the meeting at Jennifer's home. A Village of Flowers was kind enough to create use some fabulous floral arrangements.

We had Extra Mile Catering handle the menu for us and their food was really good.

Nicole with Nashville Cake Pops made us some cake pops for the planners that fit in perfectly with our decor. If you have not had a cake pop from Nashville Cake Pops, you need to order some, they are addictive though!!

Tell me how you got into Catering Sales.

I got into catering and event planning in 2005 after college. After graduating with a pre-law business major, I decided to switch gears and never look back! Since 2005, I have done hundreds of wedding and other types of events. I truly love what I do! Being a part of someone’s wedding day is an honor. I do not take it for granted.

What are some points brides should have when meeting with different venues?

Know what you are paying for. Hotels may require you do your catering through them, however all your set-up is included with your reception space. Rentals for tables, chairs, linens, dance floor, china, etc. can add up quickly. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Also, how quickly does the venue respond to your calls and emails when you are first inquiring? If the manager is taking days to respond to you before you book, how will they be after you have signed a contract? Something to think about.

Give me a run-down of the rooms you have and the services you provide.

We have 4 events spaces- ranging from intimate weddings of 25 to grand receptions of 250-300. We offer custom menus packages, discounted room blocks, and we have a variety of ballrooms and event spaces accommodating different styles and budgets.

I have worked with Megan on several events and truly enjoy working with her, so once I found out she was pregnant, I so wanted to help with her baby shower.

Look how cute Megan is!

I worked with Diana a friend and colleague of Megan's to create this Shabby Chic Baby Shower for her.

The shower took place at their church. Once we decided on Shabby Chic, I found the perfect fabric to set off the decor.

We used mason jars for the floral arrangements, accented with ceramic birds and moss.

Everything turned out perfect and I was so happy to help!!

Nashville Wedding Knowledge-"Do you trust your Vendors?"

I feel like there is so much information I wish brides know while planning their wedding. Planners usually are there to give brides the info that they need, but I know brides are not booking their planners till later in the planning process. So each week I want to ask brides a question that is very important when planning your wedding.

So the question this week is: Do you trust your vendors? Trusting your vendors is very important in the planning process. You go through the process of meeting with them and then choosing them to work your wedding. One thing that you should take into consideration when choosing a vendor is, can you trust that they will do their job affectively. The vendor should be professional and give you every reason to trust them. They will be more than qualified to provide you the service that you are wanting and they will find it a privilege to work with you.

Now I hate to say, but sometimes there are times not to trust a vendor. If they are not responding to emails or phone calls in a timely fashion or you just don't feel confident in their services and ability to pro-form their service.

Trusting your vendors is very important, if you don't the wedding planning process will not be enjoyable because you will be micro managing vendors you don't trust. Trust that your vendors have the experience and skills to provide a great service to you. They provide that service for a reason and have more than likely, perfected it.

Nashville Wedding Vendor Spotlight- Down South Delights

I have worked with Down South Delights several times for events. Down South Delights offers some really great food for wedding. I personally don’t like the normal chicken, mashed potatoes, and mixed vegetables for a wedding menu and Down South Delights can always create something that is not your normal wedding menu. I’ve asked Rita the owner a few questions about Down South Delights that will be helpful to you looking for a caterer for your wedding:

How did you get into catering and start Down South Delights?
When I completed culinary school I noticed that there just were not a lot of opportunities in my area for female chefs at the time. This has changed since, but back then women in the kitchen were only for baking/pastry work, prep, rarely as an executive chef. I loved weddings and creating beautiful food so I decided that catering was the route for me. Previously, while working on my bachelors in International Business I had worked as a catering assistant and pastry chef so had experience in the catering industry. I opened Down South Delights in 2003 and catered one wedding that year. 9 years later and we are up to 60 weddings in 2011 and counting! It has been so amazing that I would not trade it for any other culinary job in the world.

What are some different options for catering do you offer brides?
Our motto is, "your day, your way" so we are open to anything that a bride can dream of. Everything from buffet, plated, family style, stations, and a wide variety of menu choices. We also custom create menus for brides wanting something very specific. We've custom catered for many ethnic receptions including- Pakistani, Korean, Chinese, Argentinean, and many others.

What are some new things you’ll are working on for 2011?
This year we have several new trends that I am excited to offer. The gourmet lemonade bar, create your own cupcake station, and a lot of new dessert creations.

What are you’ll seeing popular in catering in 2011?
This year has been all about comfort food with a twist. Brides seem to be putting aside super formal menus for more laid back items that offer guests a chance to enjoy foods they love.

What catering trends do you which would die?
I am not a big fan of fruits and veggies carved into birds, palm trees, flowers, etc. It is just very 1980's and cruise shippy! I just think that it can really turn a beautiful display tacky! I am also not a big fan of the pineapple palm tree.

Tell me why brides should choose Down South Delights
Versatility- Our staff has such a wide range of food knowledge that we can create anything that a couple envisions or requests. A large number of local chefs and caterers from upscale establishments have called upon us to handle their receptions because of the endless selections we can offer our clients. I've had couples that want to integrate both of their cultures into the menus and we've created a complimenting menu that showcases dishes without clashing or seeming mismatched.

While our name implies that we specialize in southern cuisine we really do not have a particular specialty. Family style dinners have definitely gained popularity this year and we have had a great time with this new trend. We really try to make everyday favorites pop and add exciting elements. Whether you are looking for an old fashioned southern inspired menu or very modern haute cuisine we can definitely accommodate.

Some personal info about Rita questions:

· Favorite Food- I can't choose just one! I love a medium rare rib eye with Béarnaise. Also, a great piece of cake, I always have to try the cake at all our weddings.
· Favorite Drink at Starbucks- Cinnamon Dolce with extra shot of espresso and extra cinnamon
· iPhone or Blackberry- Blackberry!
· Favorite Song Right Now- My fave song is Frank Sinatra's THIS TOWN. I love Frank and this song always makes me happy.

Wedding Signature Drinks

A signature drink is a great addition to any wedding reception. Most signature drinks are served during the cocktail hour. They are good for brides on a budget, because you can just serve the signature drink instead of a full bar. They can also be used as an addition to your wine and beer bar. The signature drink is usually the favorite drink of the couple.



The signature drink doesn’t have to be an alcoholic drink. I’ve had many couples create a signature non-alcoholic drink for their guest, this is perfect for an afternoon wedding where alcohol will not be served.



Usually the signature drink matches the décor of their wedding, which makes a great addition!

Wedding Inspiration- Black and White Damask

I don’t know why, but I have quite a few brides using a black and white damask as their wedding colors. A black and white damask can be paired with any other color and be turned into something completely different. I personally love the look of damask, it’s timeless.

Wedding Cake Alternatives

I personally love a traditional wedding cake at a wedding, but I am also loving all the alternative desserts more and more brides are incorporating.
I think the most popular one is, instead of a large wedding cake having cupcakes for all the guest.

This couple even added a small cake on top as their anniversary cake!

Everyone loves pie! So having a pie dessert table is perfect for your wedding. This setup is great for an outside wedding or a more relaxed family style wedding.

I really like the idea of mini pies!!
A dessert table has become popular as well. The couple are able to chose different desserts and treats for the guest to enjoy.

One of my favorite ideas can be used as addition to the cake and perfect for a summer wedding. Mini ice cream cones with ice cream or sherbet. Guest will really enjoy the cold treat on a summer night.

Think of some cake alternatives that you and your guest will enjoy.

DIY Wedding Invitations Options

If you don’t send out save-the-dates, the invitations are the first thing guest see to showcase your wedding. Lately I have noticed that brides don’t want to spend a lot on invitations for fear guest will trash them or not appreciate them. I don’t really believe that people throw away a wedding invitation, but I maybe wrong.
A great way to save on wedding invitations is by using Printable Press, you choose your design and wording. Then you receive a PDF of the invitation, which you can then print them at home, at a copy shop, with an online service, or with a local professional print shop.

When you are trying to decide what type of gift to get your bridesmaids, think about what you would like as a gift. Several brides give their maids gifts that they will need for the wedding, like jewelry for their dress, a manicure or pedicure, their wedding shoes, and etc. Those are great because then your bridesmaid doesn’t have to worry about taking care of those additions.

Some brides choose to give actual gifts. These customized bags are always a favorite, a girl can never have to many bags.

Plus every girl loves a nice bath set!

To personalize your gifts, think about your maids favorite restaurant or place to shop and then purchase them a gift card for that place. The gifts don’t have to be really expensive or elaborate, just a great gift to show them you care about them and appreciate their help with your wedding!

Wedding Decor Inspiration: Navy, Fuchsia, and Blueberry

When I create an inspiration shoot I try to think about all the things you can do with décor, but keep it simple enough for a bride to recreate for their wedding.

For this shoot, I used Kristen Steele to capture all the details. I used a Blueberry color, Fuchsia, and Navy to create the décor. We chose the Historic Belmont Mansion as the back drop of the shoot. We had arranged for the shoot to be outside, but mother nature rained on that idea, so we had to move everything inside the mansion.

I am in love with this all lace gown we borrowed from The Bride Room, it fit the décor perfectly.

The bouquet was created by Village of Flowers, the flowers were exactly what I was wanting for the shoot.

They really popped against the dress, and tied in perfectly with the table scape.

To fit in with the rustic look, I chose a crinkle Blueberry linen with a simple navy napkin. The centerpiece looked amazing in those rustic vases.

When I meet with the Village of Flowers, I told I would like a tree for the main centerpiece with pops of fuchsia. And that is exactly what they created, the tree is filled with roses and orchids!

Hosting Out-of-Town Guest for your Wedding

When you schedule your wedding, you always know that you have family or friends that live out-of-town that you will want to invite to the wedding. Planning to attend an out-of-town wedding can be fun, but you have to make sure your guest have all the information they need to schedule their trip to attend your wedding.

If a large portion of your guest will be traveling, I suggest you send save-the-dates or some how let them know of the wedding date and location in advance. This help give them plenty of time to save money or ask off from work, to make sure they will be able to attend.

Once you know that you will have out-of-town guest, you should make sure to have a room block at least two hotels with different price points. This gives guest the opportunity to book a room that a hotel that is in the area of the ceremony and reception, and be something they can afford. Everyone has different standards when they are traveling, try to accommodate all of your guest.

I have had brides chose one location for their ceremony and reception to accommodate traveling guest. I am saying you have to do that. If you are using two different locations for the ceremony and reception, make sure your guest have correct instructions and directions for how to get around. Rent a Gray Line bus to take your guest from ceremony to reception. Have someone in charge of lost guest and include their number on the map to call for directions.

One last tip, include information for guest of things to do before and after your wedding. Sometimes out-of-town guest go ahead and make your wedding a vacation. When sending the travel details to them include attractions and dining information, so that they can explore the city and have a good time.

Engagement Parties

An engagement party is meant to celebrate the big news that you are getting married. It’s also time for the two families to meet and get to know each other.

When planning your engagement party first set a date, that will work for both families. Second decide who will be hosting the event, traditionally the brides parents host, but a family friend or even the groom’s parents can host the party. Next choose a theme, It’s best to consider what type of party would work for both sets of families. You could do an outside casual barbecue, a dinner party in someone's home, or even a dinner at a nice restaurant.

After you have the logistics figured out, then it’s time to handle the guest list. Traditionally you should not event anyone that will not be invited to the wedding. This will make sure there are not any hurt feelings when the wedding invitations go out. After you have finished the guest list, send out your invitations.
It’s best to register before the engagement party,because some guest may want to bring their gift to the party. I would not suggest opening the gifts, but just open them later. Your engagement party should be a happy celebration, so make sure it’s a party you will enjoy.

When Should I Start Looking for my Wedding Gown?

Begin looking for your wedding dress as soon as the wedding date is set. Depending on the dress, some may need to be ordered as much as a year in advance. Plus you have to think about delivery times, they can range from eight to ten weeks.

When you start looking for your wedding gown consider these tips:

Visit various bridal salons to find your perfect dress.
Make an appointment and let the bridal staff help you.
Try on various styles to see which one fits your body style the best.
Be sure to let the bridal staff know your budget, to insure you find a gown in your price range.
Wear or bring the proper undergarments when trying on gowns.

Union Station Wedding of Elizabeth and Matt

I know I say this every time but I really enjoyed working with Elizabeth planning her wedding. Elizabeth is very organized so she made my job easy. With four months left in the planning process, a small wrench was thrown into the process and we moved venues. Thankfully Union Station was available! Elizabeth and Matt are so cute together.

The couple chose a family friend that is owns Sweet Light by Tonda to capture the images for their wedding day.

The couple got ready for their wedding at Hutton Hotel. Elizabeth chose Robin Geary and Amy Lynn Larwig to handle the hair and makeup for the wedding party.

The wedding took place at the Cathedral of Incarnation.

After the ceremony we headed to Union Station for the reception and a few more shots.

The wedding colors were Burgundy & Ivory. So we layered each table with a burgundy pintuck linen, ivory napkins, and ivory floral centerpieces. It looked very elegant with the hotels décor.
Elizabeth and Matt chose to do a sweetheart table instead of a head table. It’s more intimate.

Elizabeth created the candy bar for all of her guest full of candy that they both loved. Stephanie with Sweetest Day made the wedding cake and the groom’s cake. They turned out perfectly!

All the guest really loved the photobooth from Photobooth Nashville.

Instead of a DJ the couple went with the John Sutton Band.

The wedding turned out exactly how the couple planned and they enjoyed every minute of it.

Real Engagement of Katherine and Jim

Jim and Katherine have been my clients since 2010, and we are planning a fabulous wedding for them in March 2012. The couple has chosen Joseph & Christina Photography for their wedding and these engagement images.

Jim and Katherine meet each other on match.com, here is there story:

I (Katherine) one day decided to join Match. It took me a few minutes to get in the groove, but after three days and putting in my information, I started on my first day. After learning the site and seeing the people who "matched" me, I winked at a few with no expectations from anyone. I went to work and later that day I checked my email and saw I had a message from a wink. He responded to what he thought was interesting on my page. He said I could call him anytime after five that day if I would like. After reading this I was surprised even more. So of course I called, and we learned more about each other and realized that Match.com really “matched” us!
We found out that we have the same birthday just two years apart. Now that’s funny, but it didn’t bother either of us. We talked for a week on the phone, and then I mentioned to him that I will be going to Nashville for a school project. With that said, he decided to make it a first date. We had our first date on Labor Day weekend. Since that weekend we have been together.
Now we are looking forward to planning our wedding. He asked me to marry him on St. Patrick’s Day- not something I was expecting. Since the day was so random we have decided to make the day a tradition and get married on St. Patrick’s Day. With that said, we are looking forward to sharing not just anniversary but the rest of our birthdays together as well!! Match.com means a lot to us and we have no problem telling people how we met each other!

What made you try online dating?

I had been single for 5 years after graduating high school and could never find someone that I could connect with. So I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask for some help.

How did you and your significant other find each other on Match?

I winked at him on my first day online!

Who reached out to who?

He did, with a phone number.

What was your first date?

We met at Centennial Park, in Nashville, Tennessee. We then went to the art museum and lunch. Then back to the park to enjoy the sunset.

Who paid on your first date?

Jim paid, I did not know where we were going exactly to eat, and he likes to surprise me!

I have really enjoyed planning their wedding with them and looking forward to their wedding.

2011 is here! I love meeting and talking to the fresh new set of brides that got engaged over the holidays, as they plan their 2011 weddings. I think 2011 will be the year for brides to break the rules in weddings, I love when I have brides that don’t want to follow the traditional wedding rules.

2011 will be the year for personalized wedding and lots of details. I personally love to offer my brides different options than the normal wedding plans. With that being said, the pantone’s color of the year for 2011 is Honeysuckle. Since this is the color of 2011, I hope brides will be incorporating this color into their weddings.

Here is an inspiration board of how you can use honeysuckle in your wedding, using a cool gray and accenting with a mustard yellow.

You’re Engaged!!

Congratulations to the lovely ladies that got engaged over the holidays.

Planning a wedding can be very frustrating and overwhelming, if you don’t have the best vendors there to walk you through the process. Being a wedding planner, I always suggest hiring one to walk you through the process. This process should be amazing for you and your fiancé, let your planner do the legwork, so you can enjoy yourself. Here is a testimonial from one of my clients that explains perfectly how important a good wedding planner is:

2010 Creative Designs & Events Recap

2010 was a great year for Creative Designs & Events, lots of fabulous weddings and brides. The year started off when I attended Making Things Happen with Lara Casey. At the intensive I had the privilege to meet and talk with Lara Casey and Jeff Holt. They both were filled with lots of knowledge and it was nice to hear their life stories. One thing that was really great about MTH2010 was meeting all the vendors that were there, sharing their stories as well. I have truly developed some great friendships from MTH2010.

Before MTH2010 I was stuck in my own little world of planning my weddings and I really didn’t get involved with the whole wedding industry. It kind of opened my eyes to the different facet of wedding blogs, wedding submissions, and social media.

After MTH2010, I wanted to make a lot of changes to Creative Designs & Events and try a few new things. I noticed that more and more brides were using the same color palettes for their wedding décor and I think it was because they didn’t have any inspiration of any other colors. So I created a photo shoots with the help of photographer Kristen Steele, to help brides see the inspiration of different colors you could pair together for their wedding table scape. I created these three looks for that shoot:

This inspiration uses Black, Yellow, and Gray. I love that fabric, I used it to create a runner and napkins.

This inspiration used Black, White, and Kelly Green. I am in love with damask, so this linen is perfect for this table scape. I like the look of all white flowers, with such a bold linen.

And the final shoot was centered around fall with a small wine theme. I used Caramel, Chocolate Brown, and Coral. I used the coral as a pop of color against the Chocolate Brown.

After I created these shots, I realized that I love creating table scapes and design décor for events. I then added Event Design Décor to my services. I wanted to offer brides the help of creating a creative and colorful décor to their wedding.

In May Lara Casey asking who would like to shoot the cover of V3. I immediately called Kristen and said, “let’s do this”. So we got together and created a southern shoot at Carnton Plantation and Downtown Franklin.

The shoot wasn’t chosen for the cover, but after lots of waiting we found out two of our images would be published in V3. I was excited for at least having two images in V3! Kristen really did a fabulous job capturing the images I was going for.

With the fall wedding season approaching, I hired a new assistant. Katlyne loves weddings and has been a great asset to Creative Designs & Events.

My favorite wedding of 2010 was my sister’s in October. The wedding turned out beautiful and exactly what my sister, Bethany and Stephen wanted.

2010 was a great year for Creative Designs & Events. I planned and created some really great weddings for my brides. Thankfully they all ran smoothly and to all of the brides liking. In 2010 I completely stepped out of my box and felt the fear and did it anyway. I knew that no matter what I did, I could only hear no, but even then I would still try. I really pushed myself in 2010 and plan on pushing Creative Designs & Events into some really greats opportunities in 2011.

2011 Color of the Year

The color is Honeysuckle. I am in love with pink anyway, so this is perfect to me.

I hope a lot of 2011 brides use this color with their weddings. I feel like it can be paired with a yellow and look very springy or with a slate gray and look so classy. I am excited to see the creations 2011 brides and designers come up with using this color for weddings.

Real Wedding of Belinda and MaQuel- Part 2

After the ceremony the couple headed to downtown Bowling Green to take some pictures at the fountain.

Belinda created a lot of custom ideas for their wedding. Belinda made welcome baskets for all of her traveling guest, that they received at check-in to their hotel.

The reception was at the Holiday Inn University Plaza ballroom. The ballroom was filled with lots of gorgeous flowers and lots of pink. We covered the chairs with white chairs and pale pink satin ties. Plus we added pale pink satin napkins to the tables.

Rhonda accented each table with beautiful flower arrangements, they did tall and short arrangements.

Belinda chose a romantic cake design for her wedding cake that incorporated the pink with pedals.

For the groom’s cake, Belinda wanted something different. Since MaQuel really liked brownies, she decided to do a brownie grooms cake with chocolate covered strawberries. It was a fun change from the normal.

For the favors, Rhonda created her famous candy bar, with lots of pink and green candy.

And lots of custom touches created by Papered Wonders!

The details and decor were perfect and everything the couple wanted.

Real Wedding of Belinda and MaQuel-Part 1

This wedding took place in Bowling Green, KY. Belinda was referred to me by Rhonda Patton her florist for the wedding. Belinda was very fun to work with, she knew exactly what she wanted for her wedding day. I am glad I was able to create that for her, with the help of Rhonda who created all the designs and floral arrangements.

Their colors were Pale Pink, Gray, and a Light Green accent. The ceremony was decorated with all white pedals, white fabric draping each pew, and a custom runner with their initials.

The bridesmaids bouquets were all pink with pearl accents, so pretty. The flower girls carried all pink pomander balls with pink pearls.

Veils are great accessories to the bridal gown. Veils are not something you have to wear, it is completely up to you. I think it depends on the bride and the look she is going for at her wedding.

This is a birdcage veil, they have become very popular.

This is a finger-tip length veil with a lace trim. Very pretty with a simple A-line gown.

The cathedral length veil is perfect for the princess bride, that wants a grand entrance.

These days more and more brides are removing their veil’s at the reception, to feel more comfortable while dancing. Choose a veil that you will be comfortable in and compliments your gown.

“Do We Have to Feed the Vendors?”

This is a question that several of my brides ask once we are at the menu tasting or finalizing the final question count. I personally feel you should feed your vendors and I suggest that to my brides. The vendors are people you hired to help make your day memorable and perform a service for you. More than likely, the day will be extremely long for them and they will need a meal to nourish them.

I am not saying you have to feed them the same $40 per person as the guest. If you want to provide them the same meal you can, but another option is, most caterers will offer a simpler meal for the vendors. It will be more affordable to you and still be a nice meal for your vendors to enjoy.

Now then the question comes up, do I need to reserve a table for the vendors to eat at. I really don’t think that is necessary. When I am working a reception, my staff and I just eat our dinner in the kitchen. Now if there are empty seats at tables then I offer them to the various vendors, but adding an extra table for vendors is unnecessary to me.

When planning your reception think about your guest. Make sure that they will be comfortable and have a great time, but don’t forget about your vendors.

Wedding Cake Stands

I was looking for a cake stand for one of my brides. So I went onto etsy because I knew they would have tons to chose from, and man did they.

I fell in love with this wooden cake stand, this is perfect for the outside rustic weddings. Plus they have three different sizes.

This shop has varies sizes of stands to choose from, which is perfect if you are having cupcakes instead of a wedding cake.

The most popular with weddings is the silver cake plateau. These can usually be rented from any wedding rental company. They also come in varies sizes.

Sometimes brides forgot needing something to put the cake on. Most cake designers just have the cake on a simple board, so be sure to dress up your wedding cake and choose a cake stand or plateau that will look best with your wedding cake.

Inspirations: Wedding Flowers and Bouquets

Flowers are a great addition to any wedding ceremony or reception. The floral arrangements should match and complement the decor of the wedding. The bridal bouquet should accent the wedding gown, not clash with it. Brides take that into consideration when you sit down with your floral designer.

This bride wanted an a very classy and pink arrangement for her tables.

I love how they incorporated pearls into the bridesmaids bouquets.

The bouquet and arrangements were perfect with the decor of the wedding and complemented her as well.

One of my favorites, this bouquet is very whimsical and fresh.

The bridesmaids bouquet ties in perfectly. I love the simplicity of this arrangement.

Feathers were the accent with this wedding, the feathers were used in each arrangement creating a modern feel to the flowers.

When meeting with your florist, bring lots of images of what you like and don't like so they have a clear understanding of what you want. Also give them details of the decor, so they can make sure the flowers will accent the event.

People always ask what is Creative Designs and Events? And what do you do? I do a little bit of everything or anything that my client needs.

Creative Designs and Events is a full service event planning company. Creative Designs and Events is owned and ran by Tiffani Helms. I started the business when I realized that event planning was something I truly enjoyed doing.

I plan and coordinate weddings mainly, but I also plan parties and other functions. I really enjoy creating fabulous events for my clients. I plan and coordinate weddings because I love doing it, creating events for brides that they have dreamed of really is enjoyable to me. Recently I added an event design and decor service to my services. This service is great for brides that need help creating and designing a theme or style for the wedding.

Lately I have styled several inspiration shoots. These shoots give me a chance to be creative and style table setups, in different ways than most brides chose for their own wedding. Choosing Your Photographer

When couples start the planning process, I feel like choosing a photographer should be one of the first vendors you choose. The photographer is a vital part of your wedding day, they should be your eyes for the day. You will not be able to truly see every detail and everything that happens. A good professional photographer will be able to get all the detail shots and truly capture your wedding day, in a way you can look back at the images and be satisfied.

Since the photographer is vital to capturing your wedding day, they should be chosen carefully. Are they a professional photographer? I have experienced a lot of couples choosing family and friends to be their photographer for their wedding. The problem with that is the majority of the time they don't have the experience to truly capture someone's wedding day. The couples find that out after they receive their images and are not happy with them.

A professional wedding photographer has experience in tons of weddings and they know what they are doing. They don't need direction to capture the images. Choosing a professional wedding photographer is the best way to get the images you will truly be pleased with after your wedding. After the wedding day is over, all you have are your memories and your pictures.

Catered Reception: Buffet vs. Plated Dinner

When couples plan your reception dinner the question always comes up, do you want a buffet or a plated dinner? Here is the description of both:

Buffet Dinner- A buffet is a system of serving meals in which food is placed in a public area where the guest generally serve themselves.

Plated Dinner- A plated dinner is a system when the caterer and staff plate each entree and then serve to each guest.

Most couples choose the buffet because they believe its cheaper, and most of the time it is, but I would advice you check with your caterer. I have worked with caterer’s where the plated dinner is not that much more than the buffet. Chose the option that fit with your reception the best.
Two more options that are becoming popular to chose for your reception is food stations and family-style.

My favorite is the food stations, the food stations can be setup all through the venue with different foods at each station.

Family-style is great for a couple that wants their reception to be more about family getting together and enjoying each other. It’s also perfect for a smaller reception, where all the guest can seat together at a long table, and pass the food to each person.

Whichever option you chose, just take into consideration which would work best with your reception.

Fall Wedding Inspiration-Blueberry, Fuchsia, and Ivory

Fall is one of my favorite seasons, I love outside weddings in the fall. When you think about fall weddings, you see browns, oranges, and reds. Those are the typical colors used at a fall wedding. I wanted to create a fall wedding inspiration that didn’t use those colors, but still keep it rustic.

With this inspiration, I wanted to keep everything clean and rustic. The colors are: Blueberry, Fuchsia, and Ivory.

I love the idea of using old wood boxes for each centerpiece or a ceramic ivory vase and incorporating real tree branches. Once you have the look of exactly what you want to achieve for your wedding, it will be easier to make sure everything fits into that same design.

Choosing Your Reception Venue

When choosing your venue, I always tell my brides to take into consideration the amount of guest that will be in the space and the type of reception you want to fit into the space. For instance if you are wanting a seat-down dinner, but you choose a venue that doesn't have a kitchen or prep area. It will very hard for your caterers to prep the food, if there isn't an area to do so in.

It's also good to have a wedding planner or someone in place to think about the logistics of the venue, a wedding planner will know exactly what you can or cannot do in a space.

I try to have my brides envision their reception and exactly what they see, so than we can choose a venue that will work for whatever you envision. I think brides want their guest to look back and enjoy everything about their reception, and not only think about not having a place to seat down. The reception should be comfortable and enjoyable for all of your guest.

Susan and Todd- Franklin Bridal Ball Winners

I met Susan and Todd at the Franklin Bridal Ball and was so happy to chose them as one of the winners to my giveaway. They are such a cute couple and I am excited to help them plan a wedding that I feel maybe one of my favorites. The couples photographer Derek Lee took these gorgeous engagement pictures for them at Greer Stadium.

How they meet
It's adorable, really . . . We met at a wedding, of all places! And not just any wedding - Susan's brother Brad Atchley was getting married to Kori Klingle in April 1994. Todd was an usher and Susan was a bridesmaid.

Todd was seated next to Brad at the rehearsal dinner. Susan was standing next to them, chatting with her brother. She asked what the disgusting blob on Brad's plate was (bread pudding). Suddenly, Todd stabbed the bread pudding with his fork! It made such a racket that everyone in the banquet room looked in their direction. Then Todd says, "I thought I saw it move." Susan was terribly amused and instantly smitten. And lucky for her, Todd was in deep smit as well. He liked her baseball stitched Ked’s.

They spent the entire reception together and planned a double date with the newlyweds. As memory serves, the date went very well. Unfortunately, Susan was still very young and it just wasn't meant to be. Not, that is, until 14 years later. The two reconnected on MySpace in January 2008, went on their second date in April 2008 and have been together pretty much ever since then.

The Proposal
Todd caught Susan with her pants down . . . literally!
Susan was in the bathroom getting ready for a much needed and long overdue evening out with Todd while Alex was at a sleepover. Just as she was about to put on her eye make-up Todd started talking to her from outside the bathroom door. "I know you said you didn't want me to get you anything for Valentine's Day, but it's not Valentine's Day now and I got something I'd like for you to wear tonight."
Of course Susan thought it was probably some racy undergarment. She had been hoping Todd would propose this night, but was convinced that he was still saving for the ring. So, in nothing but a shirt, underwear, and socks, Susan opened the bathroom door to find Todd kneeling with a ring box presented in front of him. "Will you marry me?"

The rest of the story is a little fuzzy, but the answer was a definite yes. Susan got down on the floor with Todd and hugged and kissed him, cried, said thank you . . . he put the ring on her finger. Susan was shaking and laughing. Obviously feeling very silly sitting on the floor in her underwear, but thrilled regardless. Then, realizing how long he had fooled her into thinking he didn't even have the ring yet, Susan called Todd a turd and swatted him on the shoulder. He had been a very sneaky boy indeed!

Elizabeth and Matt are Getting Married!!

I have been working with Elizabeth for several months now and she is a planners dream. She is very organized, but so calm and truly a joy to work with.

How did you and Matt meet?
Matt and I first met when we joined some people from work to watch the Notre Dame vs. Penn State game (September 8, 2007 :) ). We both were a part of the same training program for Bridgestone, just a few years apart. We were just friends for a while, but eventually realized we really liked each other and started dating. Being new at work I was worried what people would think, so for months I didn’t even talk to him in the elevator. Eventually I got over it and could at least say “Hi” to him in the elevator.

How did Matt propose?
Being an eternal snoop, I thought for sure that whenever the time came for a proposal I would know it was coming—but Matt got one by me. Friday, October 23rd, we went to breakfast and when we got back he kept saying “I found these tennis balls on sale at Target, we should play fetch with Gracie”, but I wasn’t feeling well so I kept putting it off. A few hours later he said “Just play with her, she is going nuts”, so we started to play fetch. After a few times of throwing it back and forth he kept looking at it saying “it isn’t bouncing right. . . “, I didn’t notice anything so I just kept chucking it over to him. After one throw I noticed a cut in the ball and went to look—inside was the ring! I was completely shocked! He came over and got on one knee and asked me to marry him. (Meanwhile Gracie is going crazy still trying to get the tennis ball jumping all over me as I am shaking still in shock.)
I then realized Matt had been trying to get me to play fetch sooner because my dad was leaving for a week long trip to Dubai and he wanted us to be able to tell him before he left. When we called my parents and told my mom she was excited right away, but then her reaction was “he didn’t ask Dad first?”. However, Matt did call my dad the week before and talked to him, Dad just didn't trust Mom not to give the secret away, so he kept it to himself. :)

I am very excited for their November wedding in Nashville.

Planning your Engagement Party

When you first get engaged you are very excited and can’t wait to get together with your friends and family to celebrate. Your engagement party is the perfect place to celebrate. Here are five tips to a perfect engagement party:

1. Register Early By registering early your guest can purchase you gifts to bring to the party, if they choose to.
2. Invite Only Guest That Are Invited To The Wedding I may be old-fashion about this, but I think it’s rude to invite someone to the engagement party and then not invite them to the wedding.
3. Introduce Both Families Before the Party This helps both families to connect and get to know each other. This will also eliminate awkwardness between the two families at the party.
4. Work The Room Everyone wants to see you and the ring, so make sure to go around to each of your guest and thank them for attending.
5. Keep The Party Simple Accent the party with personal touches, but don’t get to stressed with the decor. A backyard barbecue can be the perfect setting to celebrate your engagement. Focus on your family and enjoy the celebration.

Custom Wedding Decor

When brides start to plan their wedding day they sometimes forget about the ceremony or reception decor. So when the time comes to decide flowers and linens, they get very over whelmed.

I have recently added to my planning/coordination services a wedding decor and design service. This service is for brides that need help creating the look they are wanting to achieve for their wedding decor. Or for the bride that doesn’t have a certain idea or look in mind, I can create a custom wedding decor design for you.

Here is an example of a custom wedding decor setup:

This setup is more simple, because the fabric plays a big role in the design. Using the fabric I created a custom runner and napkins.

So that the fabric could pop, I decided to keep the flowers to a minimal and just did yellow daffodils.

I love when brides and grooms choose a different attire for the groom than the normal classic black tuxedo. I think couples should take into consideration what the colors of the wedding are to then choose the men's attire. Lately incorporating a color besides a black tux as become popular.

Most tuxedo rental companies have the tan tuxedo to rent to grooms. Another tuxedo that I really like is the chocolate brown tuxedo.

This one is perfect for your fall themed weddings.

I think my favorite is the gray tuxedo.

I am loving all the cute accessories people are designing and creating for today’s bride. When a bride approached me about not wanting to wear her arms out on her wedding day. I found this great shop on etsy, Toccata has really fabulous caplets and bolero’s to accent your wedding gown. They are perfect to throw on to add a little something extra to your wedding gown. I am in love with them all!!

This is perfect over a simple satin gown.

Who Is Invited to the Rehearsal Dinner?

The rehearsal dinner is handled by the groom’s parents. I always tell my brides the people invited to the rehearsal dinner are the same people at the rehearsal. Everyone in the wedding party and immediate family are invited to the dinner. Now if one of your wedding party members are married, I would say invite them as well.
I’ve also suggested to my couples, if most of your guest are from out-of-town you can invite them to the rehearsal dinner. I wouldn’t say the groom’s parents pay for their dinner, but let your guest know they can attend and will be responsible for the own check. The out-of-town guest will enjoy being able to spend more time with the couple and family.

A Tullahoma Wedding of Jessica and Brandon

Jessica and Brandon got married May 1, 2010 the day of the Nashville flooding. The ceremony and reception took place in Tullahoma, TN so we weren't as affected by the rain and flooding. The couple wanted more of a vintage themed wedding.

The ceremony turned out perfectly. The couple just wanted a simple decor for the aisle and alter. So we used small lanterns for the pews and pillar candles for the windows.

The couple chose navy blue, antique gold, ivory, and a splash of green as their wedding colors. The reception took place at the Tullahoma Event Center.

Birds were a favorite of the brides, so we used them everywhere we could. A Village of Flowers provided all of the flowers.

All the linens are from Connie Duglin Linens and Down South Delights catered their reception.

The bride packaged strawberry jam from her grandmother’s recipe for the guest favors.

The wedding cake was created by Signature Cakes by Vicki. It turned out exactly how the bride had planned.

Planning an Out-of-Town Event

Planning a destination wedding or an event from out-of-town is a difficult thing. In order to truly get the event you want, you will need to find someone you trust that you can put in charge to handle the event, that may be the wedding planner or the site coordinator.

I would not suggest trying to handle an out-to-town event yourself, if you do not know exactly what you are doing. Place a professional in charge that knows the ins and outs of creating an event.

Here are some tips for planning a destination wedding or event:

Hire a wedding planner or someone you know and trust can handle the event.
Research the area or visit the location, so that you become familiar with the area.
Research the wedding market in that area.

Sneak Peek of Jessica and Brandon's Wedding

I loved working with Jessica to help her create the wedding she had always wanted. Jessica was my winner of the free Day of Planning from the Franklin Bridal Ball in 2009. I select a couple each year to help them with their wedding planning and I made a great selection with Jessica and Brandon. (Stop by my booth at this years Franklin Bridal Ball for a chance to win)

Their wedding took place on May 1, 2010 the day of the big flood in Nashville. We were in Tullahoma, so we didn't experience the full extent of the rain.

The Guest List

One of the toughest things for most couples when planning their wedding is working on the guest list. "Who should we event?" The guest list should consist of family and friends, but not everyone you have ever come in contact with.

The guest list is the first thing I suggest my couples to do, the amount of guest is taken into consideration when making a budget, choosing a venue, and etc. Most of the time, you can't invite everyone, but I know you wish you could. Invite guest you have a relationship with or are close with your family. If you will not make a point to talk to them at your reception, I feel they can be left off the list.

If you will not invite this person out to dinner and pay for their dinner, don't event them. That's basically what your are doing at your reception.

The Perfect Bridal Gown

I know once the ring is on your finger you think about your wedding and the dress you will wear. Brides love picking their dress, the dress sets the tone for the style and type of wedding you will be planning.

Finding the perfect dress to fit your style and your body style, can be hard. The dresses off the rack fit a select few, but not many brides. In the past, I've had brides come to me and say that, they can't find anything they like. Factory bridal gown stores are not the only place to find your gown, try different boutiques, bridal shops, and thrift shops for the perfect dress. Don't think because they have designer dresses, that you will not be able to afford any of them.

One thing that has become popular lately is custom designed wedding gowns. With a custom gown, the dress is made to fit you and your body style. I personally love all things custom, because it gives you room to be creative and not have the same as everyone else. Sometimes custom can be more expensive, but wouldn't you rather have a custom wedding dress made to fit you perfectly, than something off the rack you have to alter to fit you. For that price, you could have had a custom gown made.

Their are several great bridal shops, boutiques, and custom designers here in Nashville, try one of them to find or create your perfect wedding gown.

Real Parties-Bridal Shower

One of my past brides contacted me to plan a Bridal Shower for a friend of hers. I love planning parties as much as I love planning weddings. Since the brides favorite color was purple, I wanted to add that into the decor, and add pops of pink. All of the photos are taken by Kristen Steele Photography.

I found a fabulous clubhouse in Brentwood to use for the shower. I wanted this shower to be a little different, as the bride had never been to a Bridal Shower before. I worked with Tadara Smith with Nicole Nikolas Design to create custom invitations and accessories.

I choose to do a complete lunch for the guest, in these cute gable boxes I ordered from Nashville Wraps.

And our custom designed label.

For dessert, I wanted to have some really nice sweets since they ate a nice lunch. I created a dessert bar, filled with yummy things.

There were mini cupcakes from The Cupcake Collection and cake balls from Crumb De La Crumb. If you have not had either one of these companies, I would advice you to go try their desserts. I am in love with Crumb De La Crumb's cake balls and so is my client, she has requested that they be at all of her events.

Nicole Nikolas Design designed the cupcake flags, that I put together for the cupcakes.

As everyone knows the best things with lots of desserts is a little bubbly, and my favorite is Martini and Rossi.

For the favors, I made a homemade Sugar Scrub with natural ingredients and packaged it for the guest to take home and enjoy. Again custom labels and tags for the favors.

All of the guest truly enjoyed the Bridal Shower!

Dealing with your Bridesmaids

This is a very sensitive subject, but one I know lots of brides deal with. Let me relay a story that happen to one bride.

The week of the wedding, one of the bridesmaids went to her final fitting for their custom dresses. After trying the dress on she called the bride and stated, “the dresses look horrible and we can not be wear them”. The bride panicked! The bridesmaid then informed her that she and another maid were at a local bridal shop, and they had already found another dress they would like to wear. The bride told them to hold on, she wanted to see the custom dresses before anyone ordered anything else. After seeing the custom dresses, the bride informed the bridesmaids that they would be wearing their original custom dresses.

I could not believe the way those bridesmaids acted. The last thing that bride needed to be dealing with the week of her wedding, is an unnecessary dress change. I know it takes a lot to be a bridesmaid in a wedding, but you are doing it for your friend. I have been in several weddings and maybe wouldn’t have picked the dress or shoes, but I just went along with it. It wasn’t my wedding! This is one of the most important days of her life and the bride needs your support and help, not your negativity.

Brides choose your bridesmaid carefully, choose friends that you can depend on and you know will support you through everything, not just a wedding. I have had several friends choose friends to be in their wedding, that their not even friends with now. Dealing with your bridesmaids should be a fun experience, not one you look back on and regret.

Creative Designs & Events Photo Shoot Part 2

The second part of the shoot was a completely different dress and table scape. With this scene I was going for something totally different than the first scene. Once again, all of the pictures were taken by Kristen Steele Photography.

The wedding gown is a dress I borrowed from a friend. I love the lace and bead work through out the entire dress.

The Bride Room provided us with the fabulous jewelry and hair accessory for her hair.

Connie Duglin Linens provided the linens. I decided to choose a bengaline fabric as apposed to the traditional satin or polyester linen. The bengaline fabric has a nice sheen to it, but not as shiny as a satin linen. Classic Party Rental provided the rental items.

The urn vase was something I already had, but it worked perfectly for the look I was going for. All of the flowers were created by Creative Designs & Events new Floral Stylist.

I love adding pops of color into my decor, that’s why I chose the coral napkins. I found these woven place mats and thought they would be perfect for the table scape.

I also incorporated wine corks, to use as a place card holder.

And last but not least, the bouquet that tied everything together. So pretty!

Creative Designs & Events Photo Shoot Part 1

Spring is finally here, that means wedding season is here. So I decided to plan a photo shoot to add to my portfolio, plus to help brides think outside the box with their decor.

I recently meet Kristen with Kristen Steele Photography at the Making Things Happen Intensive and thought she would be perfect to help me. If you have not meet Kristen, '”she is a fire ball of fun”!

So once we got together, the photo shoot went perfectly. I contacted the lovely Amy and Stephanie at The Bride Room to help with a dress. When I saw this dress, I knew I had to use it for the shoot.

This is an Amsale dress named Blakely. The bow detail is gorgeous.

And then look at the back!!

Here is the table decor that goes along with this bride, I am in love with this linen! Connie Duglin Linens provided all the linens and Classic provided the rentals.

I wanted to pair the black and white with a color that would pop, so I chose Kelly green. It’s looks great together.

And since the print is so bold, I wanted to go with all white flower to keep it simple and to not take away from the linen.

The bouquet tied “the look” together. The bouquet was created by the new Creative Designs & Events Floral Stylist. (More info about that coming soon)

A Wedding Without a Planner

This past weekend a friend of mine and I attended a wedding. I was eager to attend, maybe get some ideas and finally just be a guest at a wedding, which I haven’t been in forever.

After waiting more than 10 minutes for the wedding to begin, it took everything I had not to get up and see what was going on and get everyone lined up. As I sat there having to fight back the urge, my friend was praying that I didn't get up. I am a very impatient person, I hate to wait and I think it is very rude to make people wait. Finally at 3:35pm, thirty minutes after the wedding was to begin, it finally began. As the wedding party walked down the aisle, I found myself saying, "Smile!" , "Drop your flowers.", "Walk together...", Why is the ring bearer coming down now!", and much more.

My friend that is unmarried could not understand all the things that were going wrong and making me crazy! The bride also had no idea that the majority of her guests left after waiting over 30 minutes in a crowded lobby, with no food or drink, as the ceremony area was being flipped. Finally at 5:10pm, someone announced we could move into the cocktail area. “What?! You mean that we are not going into the reception? Why weren’t we in the cocktail hour this whole time?!" So after we waited in line for hor’d ouves for another 20 minutes, while I think, “Why isn’t this a double sided buffet?”. Mind you, there are about 200 guest in attendance. We finally get food, then at 6:00pm they open the doors to the reception, where there is another buffet line that has formed...also not doubled-sided. After eating our hor’d ouves, we left, my friend and I could not take it any longer. As we walked to our car, the bridal party was still outside taking pictures.

After leaving I thought that it could have ran so much more smoothly if the bride had hired a professional planner and not tried to have friends and family handle things. They know nothing about the proper etiquette or how to coordinate a wedding. I know this sounds a little harsh, but brides, this is your ONE special wedding day, and it should be perfect. Having a professional planner that knows what they are doing will cut down on lots of problems that may occur. A planner knows the ins and outs of planning a wedding. I would have never allowed the venue to not have a double-sided buffet. This helps the guests get through the line more quickly, and I have even asked my assistants to step in and help guests move through the line.

Having a professional planner there will ensure that you have someone there taking care of you, your guests, and your vendors. Brides: Find a planner that you can connect with and trust to help you with your special day. I promise you will not regret it!

New things for Creative Designs & Events

I always have ideas come to me and then I think, "I can't do that". Since the Making Things Happen Intensive ideas have been running out of head like crazy. I still get the fear of planning out a new idea but now I am able to overcome my fear and do it anyway. So with that said, I have lots of new things coming for Creative Designs & Events.

I still believe their are lots of needs still out there in the wedding world and hopefully I will be able to help and educate as many brides as I can. Stay connected for the new things coming.

Wedding Gift Registries

Gift registries ensure you will receive gifts that you and your fiancé will enjoy. When registering for your wedding gifts, think about things you and your fiancé truly need or will use. Don’t add items to the registry that you don’t think you will use, they will just waste space or be returned for something you did want. Choose two or three different stores to give guest an variety of items and prices.

Depending on your lifestyle, each couples gift registry will be different. Some couples choose not to do a gift registry and decide to setup other registries, as in giving donations to their favorite charity, setting up a honeymoon registry for guest to contribute to their honeymoon, or just cash and checks. This one has become popular for a couple saving for a house or another big purchase.

It’s best to register before invitations go out, so that once guest receive them any guest that will not be able to attend can still purchase a gift. This is also good for out-of-town guest that will not be able attend.

Why I Love Planning Weddings

Tomorrow will be a month since I attended the intensive Making Things Happen 2010. One question that Lara Casey asked me at the intensive that I hadn’t thought about before was, Why do I love planning weddings? As soon as I thought about, I immediately could feel myself light up and get emotional at the same time. I never realized before how passionate I am, about what I do.

I love first meeting with a bride that is full of happiness and excitement. I still get so excited when I first meet new brides. I love hearing the brides ideas for her wedding, and then taking her ideas and getting them churning in my mind. The ability to help brides plan the most important day of their lives, make me feel so privileged. I love helping couples plan the details and logistics for their special day.

Planning someone’s wedding is not something I take lightly, I want my couples to look back at their wedding day and the full experience and feel like it couldn’t have gone any better or smoothly. I feel like event planning comes natural to me, I am confident in my ability to take someone else’s ideas and vision and make it happen on the day of their wedding.

With Nashville’s recent teaser of warm weather, I have been thinking about going to the beach. My family has started to go to Destin each year, which is like my favorite vacation spot. I love the beach, the sand, the food, and the fresh breeze of being near the ocean.

Making Things Happen 2010- Nashville

I had the pleasure of attending the intensive workshop Making Things Happen with Lara Casey, Jeff Holt, and special guest Jeremy Cowart. I didn't know exactly what to expect when I signed up, so I was excitied to attend. More than anything I wanted to meet Lara Casey, she is one of those people you always want to meet but don't think you ever will. Well, she was everything I thought and more! I love her humbleness and her ability to help all of us small business owners grow our businesses.

Lara and Jeff were full of knowledge. I feel they are the perfect people to be doing this workshop. I loved their honesty, and especially the honesty of the attendents. They completely cracked me open, which I feel is a hard task. I left the workshop feeling tired but, exhilarated. I am ready to challenge myself and feel the fear, but still take that leap.

I got to meet some other fabulous vendors that I was able to connect with. If you have a chance to attend the Making Things Happen 2010 workshop, I truly suggest you attend. The investment will truly be worth it. Look out for changes and great things coming for Creative Designs & Events.

I recently asked Laurie a few questions to help brides learn more about her and her services.

How did you get into photography? My mother bought my first camera for me when I was a young kid. I enjoyed my “hobby” for several years before realizing it was so much more. It became a passion of mine and I haven’t been able to put the camera down since!

How long have you been doing photography?
I have taken photos all of my life but started the professional route in 2002.

What is your favorite trend you have seen in recent brides? I have always been traditional at heart but I see the trend in brides desiring to see their fiancé’s prior to the ceremony. They usually do a “first look” which allows me to capture some of the most amazing and REAL images. The couple is able to work out any jitters beforehand and is able to join their guests at the reception immediately following the ceremony. I never try to convince a couple one way or another but I do see the positives from a photographic standpoint.

What is your favorite location to take wedding shots?
The Nashville area offers so many gorgeous locations, both inside and out. I have several favorites including The Cathedral of the Incarnation, Oaklawn Mansion and the historic Carnton Plantation.

What sets you apart from other photographers?
I do not offer time limits, as I believe I am there to capture the ENTIRE wedding day story. I do not have confusing packages. I charge a flat fee which includes unlimited time, 400 fully edited prints and the high resolution digital files.

Wedding Favor Ideas

Wedding favors add a special treat to your wedding and to your guest. There are tons of things you can have as your favors. Choose something that is close to you and your fiance and fits in with the overall theme of your wedding.

Packet your favorite dessert into a jar and add the recipe. Guest will enjoy your favorite dessert with their family.

Another great favor idea is, having the guest choose their favorite organization and the couple makes a donation in each of the guests names.

For a while everyone had a candy bar, but I like the idea of doing other bars, like a cookie bar. Get all of your favorite cookies and display them in jars, with bags for guest to take home with them.

Other bars that could work for your favors: ice-cream & popcorn. When choosing your favors think outside the box!
